À l’occasion de l’exposition « Kwame Brathwaite: Black is Beautiful », nous vous invitons à une visite exceptionnelle aux côtés de Kwame S. Brathwaite, fils du photographe et Directeur de The Kwame Brathwaite Archive.
En revenant sur les images emblématiques de son père, Kwame S. Brathwaite évoquera l’héritage de ce pionnier de la photographie afro-américaine et du mouvement « Black is Beautiful ». Une plongée dans les années 1960 au cœur de la création du collectif African Jazz-Art Society & Studio (AJASS) et des Grandassa Models, de la scène jazz new-yorkaise et de la lutte pour une représentation fière, libre et politique du corps noir. Un moment rare et convivial pour découvrir autrement l’exposition et échanger sur la transmission d’une mémoire visuelle.

On the occasion of the exhibition ‘Kwame Brathwaite: Black is Beautiful’, we invite you to a special guided visit with Kwame S. Brathwaite, son of the photographer and director of The Kwame Brathwaite Archive.
Reflecting on his father’s iconic images, Kwame S. Brathwaite will speak about the legacy of this pioneer of African-American photography and of the ‘Black is Beautiful’ movement. A deep dive into the 1960s, at the heart of the creation of the African Jazz-Art Society & Studios (AJASS), the Grandassa Models, the New York jazz scene, and the fight for a proud, free, and political representation of the Black body. A rare moment to experience the exhibition in a new light and to share in the transmission of a visual memory.
