Conférence en anglais
Lina Lapelytė will introduce her artistic practice through her recent works developed across performance, theatre, and exhibition contexts, including Sun&Sea (2019), The Speech (2024), Copper Lick (2024), In The Dark We Play (2025), Cosmic Home (2025). Her talk will focus on how projects evolve from initial concepts into spatial experiences, addressing collaboration with performers and the practical realities of working in different types of spaces.
Drawing on projects presented both on stage and in exhibition settings, Lapelytė will reflect on her approach to scenography and spatial thinking, and how artistic strategies shift when moving between theatrical and gallery environments.
Lina Lapelytė :
Lina Lapelytė (b. 1984, works in Vilnius and London) is an artist and composer whose performance-based practice is rooted in music. Her work often involves both trained and untrained performers, with singing as a central act—used to create collective performance that often explores voice and presence—or who gets to have both. In recent years, she has focused on large-scale, site-specific installations and performances that investigate language, collectivity, and the social, spatial, and temporal structures that shape our experiences. Her works continue to explore how artistic forms can open up spaces for reflection and connection.
Lapelytė is best known for Sun & Sea (2019), an opera-performance made in collaboration with Vaiva Grainytė and Rugilė Barzdžiukaitė, and curated by Lucia Pietroiusti, which was awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale. Her work has been widely presented at institutions and festivals including Perfroma (New York, 2025), Taipei Biennial (Taipei, 2025), Shanghai Biennale (Shanghai, 2025), Festival d’Automne/Bourse de Commerce (Paris, 2024), Wiener Festwochen (2023), Public Art Munich; Haus der Kunst (Munich, 2021), Kunstenfestivaldesarts (Brussels, 2021), BAM (New York, 2021), MOCA (Los Angeles, 2021), Tai Kwun (Hong Kong, 2021), Riga Biennial (2020), and the Venice Biennale (2016, 2019).
Upcoming presentations include exhibitions at Hamburger Banhof (2026) and others.
